Privacy Policy
Weekends Cleanerscleans carpets, rugs, upholstery and mattresses across the Greater Toronto Area. This page explains what personal information we collect, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. We follow Canada's federal privacy law, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Who is responsible
Weekends Cleaners is responsible for the personal information it holds. Our Privacy Officer oversees how we handle it and answers questions and complaints about this policy: Privacy Officer, Weekends Cleaners, Mississauga, ON, hello@weekendscleaners.com, +1 (437) 428-2724.
What we collect
- When you book or ask for a price: your name, phone number, email, service address, unit and postal code, property type, buzzer or entry instructions, the items and any vehicle you want cleaned, your preferred date and arrival window, any referral code, and any notes you add. Please share health details, such as allergies, only if they affect the products we use.
- When you message us on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, by text or by email: the conversation and the contact details you share in it. We keep a copy of Facebook Messenger and Instagram conversations in our own booking system so no request gets lost, and we link a conversation to your job when you book through it.
- When we do the job: before and after photos of the items we clean, the price, and how you paid.
- Referrals:if you book with a friend's referral link or code, we note who referred you so we can apply your discount and credit your friend. We never show either of you the other's details.
- When you visit this website:the technical details every browser sends (IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed), and cookies set by Meta's advertising pixel.
Why we use it
- To quote, book and confirm your visit, send reminders and an on-my-way message, and do the work.
- To answer your questions and handle any follow-up or redo.
- To keep the business, tax and accounting records the law requires.
- To ask for a review after your visit and tell you about our referral offer. You can opt out of both.
- To measure and improve our advertising, as described below.
We do not sell your personal information.
Photos
We may share before and after photos of cleaned items on this website and our social pages. We never show your face, your family, your street or your house number, and we remove location data from photos before we post them. If you would rather we did not post photos from your visit, tell us and we won't.
Advertising and measurement (Meta)
- This website uses the Meta Pixel. The pixel, and cookies it sets on this site (such as _fbp) and on Meta's own sites, let Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram) collect information about your visit: the pages you view, when you open the booking page, and when you send a booking along with its estimated price, plus your IP address and browser details. Meta may link this to your Facebook or Instagram account. Meta uses it to measure our ads, to show our ads to you and people like you, and for its own purposes under the Meta Privacy Policy. The pixel does not run on your private booking page or on our unsubscribe page.
- When a job is done, whether you booked on this website, by message or by phone, we tell Meta that a purchase happened, its value, and whether it came from the website or a chat. To match it to an account we include your email, phone, first and last name, city, postal code, province, country and our customer number, each in scrambled (hashed) form. If you did not give us a postal code, we look it up from your address. If you booked through Facebook Messenger, we also send the ID of that conversation so Meta can tell which ad led to it. Meta says it deletes the scrambled contact details after matching, and keeps the fact that a purchase happened to measure our ads, decide who sees them, and improve its own ad systems.
- We may also give Meta scrambled contact details of past customers, so we can avoid showing our ads to people who already use us, or reach people similar to them.
- We never send Meta your booking notes, or anything about your health or the reason for a cleaning.
To opt out:
- On this website: use the “Turn off ad tracking” link at the bottom of any page. It works right away on this browser.
- In Facebook or Instagram: open Accounts Center, then Your information and permissions, then Your activity off Meta technologies, and disconnect future activity.
- Across many advertisers: the AdChoices tools of the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada at youradchoices.ca.
- In your browser: block or clear third-party cookies.
- For your purchase details: email hello@weekendscleaners.com. We add you to our opt-out list, and from then on nothing about your jobs is sent to Meta.
Advertising on Google
We may advertise on Google. If we do, third-party vendors, including Google, show our ads on sites across the internet, and use cookies and device identifiers to show ads based on your past visits to this website. We may also send Google scrambled (hashed) contact details from a booking, or of past customers, to measure which ads lead to bookings and to avoid showing ads to existing customers. To opt out of Google's use of cookies for personalized ads, visit My Ad Center, or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page at optout.networkadvertising.org. Emailing us also removes you from anything we send to Google.
Google Maps
This website uses Google Maps features and content to suggest your address as you type and to plan our routes. Your use of them is subject to the Google Maps End User Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. What you type in the address field is sent to Google, or to Photon by Komoot (based on OpenStreetMap) if Google's suggestions do not load, to find your address.
Automated replies
Some replies on Facebook Messenger and Instagram come from an automated assistant, provided by Meta, that answers questions about our prices and booking days. A person confirms every booking and handles anything the assistant cannot.
Who helps us
These service providers handle information for us, only to provide their service to us:
- Vercel, which hosts this website and runs our booking system (United States).
- Supabase, which stores our booking, customer and message records (Canada).
- Resend, which sends our booking, reminder and review request emails, and the booking alerts we receive (United States).
- Apple iCloud Mail, which hosts our business email inbox, including those booking alerts (United States).
- ntfy.sh, a push notification service that alerts our phones to new bookings and messages. It receives only a first name, a city and job details such as the date and price, never your address or phone number.
- CARTO, which provides the map on our home page. Your browser contacts it directly.
- Our phone carrier, for calls and texts.
These companies also use information for their own purposes, under their own privacy policies:
- Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp), for our advertising and for conversations you start on their apps.
- Google, through Google Maps Platform, and through Google Ads if we advertise there.
- Komoot, through its Photon address service (Germany), which your browser contacts directly as a backup.
Some of these companies store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States, and Komoot in Germany. While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country, and courts, law enforcement and national security authorities there may be able to access it.
Google reviews on our site
Our website shows public Google reviews exactly as the reviewers posted them, with the name they chose on Google. We match a review to our own records so we can show it on the page for the city where we did that job, and we keep a copy of it. Tell us if you would rather your review not appear on a city page.
How long we keep it
- Booking, invoice and payment records: six years from the end of the tax year they relate to, as the Canada Revenue Agency requires, then we delete them. If a tax review is open, we keep them until it is settled.
- Your customer record (name, contact details, address and past visits): two years after your last visit, except what tax law needs.
- Messages that did not lead to a booking, and copies of chats: two years after the last message.
- Photos we do not post: two years after the visit. Posted photos: until you ask us to remove them.
- Information held by Meta or Google: under their own policies.
We go through our records once a year and delete what has passed these periods.
How we protect it
Your booking details are kept in password-protected systems. The people who run Weekends Cleaners and the technician doing your job can see them, and so can the providers listed above, only to provide their service to us. The link to your booking page works without a password so you can check it easily; anyone you forward it to can see your address and entry details, so please keep it private. We never post your address. If a breach of our safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as soon as we can.
Your choices and rights
- You can ask what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Access is free. We may need to keep records that tax law requires.
- You can stop review requests and offers at any time: use the link at the bottom of those emails, reply STOP to a text or email, or tell us. We act on it within 10 business days. Messages about a booking you make, like confirmations and reminders, still go out.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time. If we need some information to do your job, we will tell you what that means for your booking.
- Contact us at hello@weekendscleaners.com or +1 (437) 428-2724. We reply within 30 days. If we need more time, we will tell you in writing within those 30 days and explain why; the law allows up to 30 more days. If we cannot give you something, we will tell you why in writing and how to complain.
- If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
